The thing that sells me on a song or an artist is lyrics and how they are intertwined with the instruments. I love the art of lyrics. I love "Satellite". Is it a song about true love? Technology? Big Brother? The Russians? It could be so much or maybe its nothing at all, just a bunch of Jewish guys rhymin' away.
Nick's former family was Asian. The shelter told us they were either Chinese or Taiwanese. So naturally we thought they probably pronounced Nick's name as "Nick-o-rus", with the last syllable having a little flair, sounding like "rush".
I loved singing to Nickorus. We'd belt songs out together in the car, on our walks, whenever. He had the most expressive eyebrows I've ever seen on a dog. When I'd hit a particulary lovely note the eyebrows would go nuts. One of our favorite songs was "Satellite", but we changed the title to "Nickorus". I heard our song at Chili's on Thursday night. My dinner came with broccoli.
"Nickorus" by Guster
Shining like a work of art
Hanging on a wall of stars
Are you what I think you are?
You're my Nickorus
You're riding with me tonight
Passenger side, lighting the sky
Always the first star that I find
You're my Nickorus
Elevator to the moon
Whistling our favorite tune
Trying to get a closer view
Shining like a work of art
Hanging on a wall of stars
Are you what I think you are?
You're my Nickorus
You're riding with me tonight
Passenger side, lighting the sky
Always the first star that I find
You're my Nickorus
Elevator to the moon
Whistling our favorite tune
Trying to get a closer view
You're my Nickorus
You're riding with me tonight
Passenger side, lighting the sky
Always the first star that I find
You're my Nickorus
Maybe you will always be
Just a little out of reach
You're my Nickorus
You're riding with me tonight
Passenger side, lighting the sky
Always the first star that I find
You're my Nickorus
You're my Nickorus
I hope he heard me singing and was whistlin' along.
