Rinnea, no more fish tacos.

I often wax poetic about the delicious culinary delights that only Chicago can offer. But, there is no other place I can experience the unique, delicious taste of fish taco. That's right, a FISH taco. If you're from anywhere else in the country, you've probably had chicken tacos or beef tacos, but fish? I didn't even know they made fish tacos until I moved out to Southern California.

I LOVE FISH TACOS. In my humble opinion, Longboard's Bar & Grill here in Pacific Beach makes the BEST fish tacos in town. The absolute best. What's even better is that they are only a $1 on Tuesdays. Actually, most places in town have $1 fish taco Tuesdays, so it's not a novelty or anything. Longboard's though is the most delicious. A couple of fish tacos with an ice cold Pacifico and you'll be in a wonderful food coma. Longboard's is where Ed and I went to lunch together for the very first time. Aaaah, memories. But tonight, it is where I went one last time with my girlfriend, Linnea.

Linnea's parents, Al and Peggy, are in town. They're helping Linnea move back to Chicago. I met Linnea shortly after I moved here. We hit it off because, GASP!, she is also from Chicago! Al and Peggy are completely the couple I want to be with Ed. They have that love with all the essential adornments I'm always ranting about. Linnea is their only child. (They also had another "daughter", their Doxie, Molly, who has crossed the rainbow bridge with Nick).

Linnea has been one of the most unique friends I've ever had. I've watched an incredible transformation of her character and of her as a woman in the years we've spent together out here. Her life has never been boring or dull, although I suspect that she sometimes wished it were so every once in a while. She's become a sister to me over the years. It is my deepest belief that a man truly worthy of her will come along and she'll be blinded by the truth of him. It'll be magic because she's so amazing.

Linnea, Longboard's fish tacos, Pacificos....what else says Tuesday nights in our friendship? I'll miss that so much. Al and Peggy come out for vacation to San Diego twice a year, and we got them hooked on fish tacos as well. Dinner tonight was bittersweet. I regretted not having spent more time with Linnea in the past year or so. Life was so chaotic and I always had to ask for rain checks when we were supposed to hang out together.

Life is always change, and Linnea has another one to adapt to now. I'll be excited to hear of her life's tales from Chicago as only she knows to tell 'em. It'll be exciting to be able to visit her when I go home to Chicago, but I'll sure miss her around here. :-(

Nick only knew her as "Auntie Rinnea", you know, because he spoke with an Asian accent. So, it became a running joke between us that she was "Rinnea" and not "Linnea". I'd call her at work and ask the secretary for Rinnea "prease". I won't go into further details (at least not tonight) about what else we'd joke about, but suffice it to say that neither Rinnea nor I ever felt we had to restrain ourselves!!!

Sigh. There are so many changes in my life these days. Is July over yet?

Thank you so much for visiting me on my poor, neglected blog. I spent some time reading through your old entries, and learned all about your beloved Nick. I am sure your Nick and my Peace are running around Heaven as we speak. From one attorney to another, from one grieving "mom" to another, thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. You really made my day!
