1 year, 8 months, 8 days = 615 Days.

That's how long we had our Nick.

Nick was a rescue Golden Retriever. We adopted him on November 3, 2005. Including yesterday, when he left us, we had him for 615 glorious, loving days.

He was an old boy when we got him (12 and a half). Given that his birth certificate stated his birthday was February 11, 1993, that would have made today Nick's 14 years and 5 months birthday.

Happy Birthday Nick, my love.

I hope that as I'm writing this you are in heaven enjoying a birthday turkey meatloaf with butter mashed potato icing along with a heaping side dish of plain, steamed broccoli (of course). You deserve an extra large serving. Actually, you deserve the entire loaf. I will always miss cooking your special doggie dishes. Mostly I will miss the click-click-clicking of your toes as you tap danced on the kitchen floor, eagerly anticipating your feast.

I'm almost done with the work day. I don't want to go home right now. The house feels so EMPTY without Nick. Of course, there is Captain Morgan, our beloved parrot, but he'll understand that I need time to mourn our Nick. The Cap'n and Nick were great napping partners.

Thank goodness for great friends. I asked Val if she'd meet me for a drink. Just for a bit. She had plans, but like I said, thank goodness for great friends. We're going to meet up. She's a great doggie mommy to Max Pooh Bear, the gentle mastiff. More on Val later. Did I mention she's great?
