Can't Sleep

It's something like 2:30, everyone's asleep except for me. Tossing and turning, I couldn't get my mind to settle down. So many thoughts running this way and that. Couldn't stand it any longer, so here I am.

I really enjoy listening to Andrea Bocelli, which is what I'm doing right now. I've got my headphones plugged into my laptop listening to his CD from last year. Beautiful. Something about the fact that he's blind makes his music that much more profound for me. I like it better when he sings Italian opera ballads more than Spanish ones, although I love that he sings so well in each language.

It bugs me when things don't end on an even number, like the TV or speaker volume. Just now I fought with my laptop to get the volume number to stay at 6 instead of 5. It's a bit of a neurotic fixation, huh?

I'm going to begin learning Italian in a couple of weeks. Why not? I can just add it to my collection of languages. I'll listen to CDs in my car and when I work out, and then follow it up with conversation and writing exercises.

We've reserved the church for our wedding in Italy. 10:30 a.m. on August 8th at Santa Susanna dil Roma Catholic Church it will be. I spent the better part of this week organizing that entire process with the wonderful Father Greg via email. It's going to be quite a process, involving lots of paperwork, translations, notarized documents, etc... www.santasusanna.org

I don't want to register for crystal, fine china, or silverware. I can't think of when I'd ever use it, and if I did, I'd be a nervous wreck that they'd be damaged. I really, really love and PREFER classic, durable everyday kitchen and dining ware. I'm going with the classic white set from Crate and Barrel. It's also about 20% of the cost of the fancy sets. Wow.

We love, love, love having our dear friends over, the more often the better. I want something I can dress up or dress down, but I always want it to feel comfortable, homey, and relaxed. Instead of spending all that money on fancy china and stuff, I'd rather have it invested in top notch cookware. Something we will use everyday and literally for the rest of our lives.

The contractor begins this week with digging up our backyard and refilling in the old pool to prepare it for the remodel, which should begin in a couple of weeks or so. Achilles and Milo get to vacation at More Mommy's and More Daddy's house during the days this week while the contractors tear up the yard. My sweet boys. They'll be putting up with a lot this year. Is it just me, or do they just get cuter and cuter every day?

Adriana is going rock climbing in the mountains down in Baja around Cabo San Lucas. We get to watch her baby girl, Allie, while she's gone. Allie really likes being on the couch with Ed. She's such a good, sweet girl, one of the most well behaved dogs I've ever met in my life. Adriana has Allie and Apollo, her horse. She's a great trainer and it shows in her furkids.

I miss my baby sister. She's moving to San Diego sometime this year, but it can't be soon enough for me. She'll be in town for a day on the 18th, so I'm taking the day off and we're just going to hang. Oh, and speaking of moving back...Linnea is working on returning to San Diego as well. Yay!

Work is going to be delirious this week. One of our attorneys resigned about a month ago and her last day was Friday. We went to NoBu for her going away dinner. Delicious. A beautiful Japanse restaurant in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter. Well, without her, we're all going to be figuring out how to get the mountain of discovery out the door by Thursday. It'll be an interesting few weeks while we get used to a new office routine.

That same day, Ed had been out all day at the beach with his buddies celebrating some work awards they received. He decided to come all the way downtown with his buddies and CRASH our fancy party. He showed off the free t-shirt he got from radio station promoter. He was also sporting his glow-in-the-dark yellow fish "fun" shirt, which of course fit right in with the fancy Prada and Gucci in the restaurant. Let me tell you, if there was ever a moment I was most in love with my man-boy, it was right then in there when he proudly strolled right into NoBu with free t-shirt in hand. He looked absolutely adorable and I wanted to gobble him up alive. My funny Belov-Ed.

I need to take my car in for all kinds of maintenance and upkeep work. Sigh. I have no idea when I'll be able to do it, but I feel like I should before something goes wrong.

I think I'll go do some reading now. Maybe it'll help me fall asleep. I hope.

I know what was keeping you awake - it was that lousy Wisconsin game:) I checked out your church website - can I just say WOW! It looks gorgeous!

The great thing about having white china is you can do ANYTHING to it. A napkin draped over it, a different colored starter plate (maybe some of that great italian china since you're going to be there anyway) ... God, I've got to stop watching the food network:)

btw - love that you had andrea playing. i seriously am listening to him as i type. Amore has been the only CD playing in this house for a long time, probably too long. it's so funny how my entire family is a bit obsessed with him. whenever we are all working at the bar, my brother blasts that CD the whole time. the "neighbors" are probably so sick of it! oh well!! get over it! speaking of the bar, i've been meaning to email you and smiley some updated pictures. maybe i'll do it right now. we should be open by next weekend, God willing!! Keep your short, stubby fingers crossed! (tee hee! you know i love you!)

Totally with ya on the even numbers thing. Why is that??? I am that way with the AC or heat in my car. Can't be 75, has to be 76 or 74. We have issues, but that's ok!!!

Can't wait to enjoy dining on your new dishware and eating meals from your fab new cookware sometime soon!
