Jackson is the very young (puppy?) Shih Tzu who apparently spent the cold night under my car while I was at Mom's house last night. All night I thought I heard crying and animal noises, but when I went out with the flashlight to take a look around I didn't see anything. This morning, as Mom and I were packing up my car for my return trip to San Diego, Jackson came bolting out from under my car shivering and scared. Mom fed him a whole cooked chicken breast and he wanted more. It took him almost an hour to stop shivering and making little mewing noises. If it was him making all that noise overnight then I don't know why he didn't come out or bark or something to alert me.
It's late and I won't go into all the details, but I knocked on neighbors' doors, put up signs, put up pictures at the Petco and reported to the Humane Society. Jackson had no tags, no collar, nothing. I bought him a cheap collar and leash set at Petco. No one had even seen him being walked in the neighborhood. I took him to Nick's old hospital because I was desperate. I figured they could run a microchip check. I'm sure he'd be microchipped, right? Nope. Not at all. They searched his body for over five minutes and no chip. There was no way I'd leave him in a drop off crate at the Human Society since they're closed on Mondays and Sundays. I couldn't leave him with Mom because of Bobo. So, he had to come home with me.
As I drove all over the damned county looking for Jackson's family, I called everyone I knew to tell this incredulous tale. Of all the cars in the neighborhood, Jackson made mine his security blanket. Probably because he could sense that a total sucker owned the Honda and would come out of the house sooner or later. I tried calling S several times, but she didn't answer. Linnea and Adriana weren't around. Spoke with Lynne though and filled her in on the craziness. I should have called Laura, but I think she was out Christmas tree shopping.
Poor Achilles and Milo are so stressed. They're not sure what to make of Jackson who insists on playing with their toys, something they are not happy about. Suffice it to say that ALL toys are safely hidden in the closet. They nearly came to BLOWS and BITES over the stuffed squeaky snowman! Jeezaloo. Ya'll know how much Milo loooves sharing my affection. Yeah right! (Snort.) Poor boys. I feel so absolutely guilt ridden, but at the same time I couldn't just leave Jackson at the Humane Society until whenever the night kennel crew would show up.
Who does Jackson belong to? What little girl or boy is missing him right now? It hurts me to think that some family out there is heartbroken and wondering where their little puppy may be right now. Ed and I aren't really "little dog people" so we're kind of freaked out by Jackson. I just don't know what I'd do if I ever lost Achilles or Milo or if they ran away without their collar and tags. Gosh, I feel so bad for Jackson and so bad for my golden boys, who're wondering if I've replaced them with a purse doggie. Sigh. Oh please God, tell me I did the right thing by bringing this dog to our home. Please pray that we find his family for him.
Here's my dashing and debonair Milo Bear. He was sportin' his Navy bandana while watching the game yesterday. Hi laceration seems to be healing up nicely. Navy won and got the Commander-in-Chief trophy yet again. Milo was thrilled to pieces. This afternoon he gave me kisses when my Bears blew it against the Giants. Grrr! I was so pissed off. I can't even blog about it. I'm still pissed off.

It sounds to me like Jackson has already found his family.
Reading this does not surprise me one bit. Of course out of the hundreds and hundreds of cars he could have picked, he has to hide under yours. For whatever reason he must have sensed that you would be good to him and make sure he was safe. I'm sorry to hear the boys are all worked up over this tiny fur ball but it's just because they don't quite understand what's going on. I could tell by Milo's expression that he is NOT happy about this situation. What about the Cap'n? I'm surprised he hasn't packed his birdie baggage and high tailed it outta there.
So what are you going to do???
