Tune in Thursday - Madonna

In recent years I've fallen out of like with the pop princess, but back in the day cafe, I used to rock out to her tunes with the best of them. My poor, conservative, Muslim mother didn't know what to do with herself when Madonna's album "Like a Virgin" was released. She was so "humidified" for me & my sisters, and wouldn't allow us to watch MTV.

Somehow I got a hold of a bootleg CASSETTE tape of "Like a Virgin" because I was in LOVE with the song "Dress You Up." I played the heck out of that cassette on a hand-me-down Walkman. Aaaah, good times.

To this day, "Dress You Up" remains my ALL TIME FAVORITE Madonna song. Not only is it my favorite Madonna song, it is my favorite karaoke song. A couple of glasses of wine/margaritas in this Muslim chica and I. AM. MADONNA.

Thank God there was no such thing as YouTube when I was in college/law school. You have no idea how LOUD I can wail and belt out this song. It is (or was) a sight (and sound) to behold, I'm sure. One time I got so excited while jumping up and down, being the Afghani Madonna, that the mic slipped from my grip, flew across the restaurant, and knocked over a tray of dirty glasses. *Graceful*, I am not.

I heard it on my way to work this morning, sang my Afghan heart out in the car, and realized I had found the perfect song for Tune in Thursday. Enjoy. :-)

If your child happens to be sportin' a purple weave in her hair, I can relate. I used to have purple lace elbow gloves. S.E.X.Y. Here she is, live in her purple majesty.

I know exactly what you are talking about!!! We all have songs that we can and will sing along with anytime or anywhere!! Just yesterday I was doing this on my way to work when Gloria Gainor's song "I will Survive" came on the radio--What a way to start both our work days huh? Hope your week is ending on a "good note!" :-))))

I LURVE Madonna. Well, I used to love her...now I am a fan. How about that?
I heard Boderline this morning ad I thought...Dang, I sing this song so good. in the shower.

I can see why your Mom tried to sheild you from her..she was bad news. :0 She takes away the virginity of teenage girls.

My fave song of hers is You Can Dance. It is perhaps my favorite song to dance to. ever.
Dress you up is great too...I can see you at the karaoke bar now. Falling down, on your knees, with your black rubber bracelets and lace socks with pumps. Yeah. You are awesome.

Did you see my post of Linds back on halloween? She was Madge herself. I think I had more fun with it than her.

Purple weave in the hair huh? WHo would ThAt Be? hmmmmmm

I liked some of her music, too, back in the day...before she became too enamored of her own fame. Thanks for the reminder of the good stuff!
