He slept on the couch in the TV room all night. He wanted to be there for Shirley Pie as soon as she needed out to the yard. And she needed out FIVE times last night. Because of the her past history of abuse & neglect, she is afraid of the dark. That is unusual for a dog or cat, but alas, that's our Shirley Bug.
Shirley is our diminutive Hobbit of a Golden, petite thang with 4 little shawty-short legs. Which means the backyard's sensor lights don't always pick up her movements. So, Ed wanted to make sure he could jump up at a moment's notice...run with her to the back door...frantically wave his arms over his head to trigger the sensor lights asap for his little girl...all so she could race outside without fear and EXPEL...EXPLODE...EXPUNGE.
I, on the other hand, slept LIKE A BABY through all the gastrointestinal drama going down at the other end of our house. Tee hee. :-)
No, seriously, I thought she'd come to my bedside for help gettig out, but nope, she decided papa could take care of her just fine. I woke up at quarter to 5 to go to the gym, and there she was. So happy, so giddy, leading me to the kitchen for her morning banana.
"This a-way Mama! This a-way to the kitchen! This a-way to the Promise Land of Treats and Garbage!"
She was obviously none the worse for wear.
As I watched her strong feathered tail wagging her little body side-to-side, I thanked God for my precious Belov-Ed.
There he was, in all his exhausted glory, crashed on the couch, legs and arms aflail, mouth open in slumber. He'd worked 14 hours yesterday, has to work all weekend, and yet, sleep wasn't important last night, because his Shirley Girl needed him.
Ladies, my humble advice? Observe how your potential mate treats animals, the elderly, and the ill & destitute of the world. His approach is indicative of some very important character elements, and more importantly, indicative of how your mate will treat you, your babies, and later on, how he'll treat you whilst your growing children stand witness.
My little Golden Girls are blessed, that their papa bear's love, and dedication to his family & his responsibilities, knows no bounds...

you had me laughing out loud!! i can just picture your belov-ED flailing his arms in front of the censors so shorty could venture out to explode! what a great guy! and so true about the advise!
so glad SB is doing well, gotta love those garbage guts!
hope your weekend is restful...
xoxo
I'm just catching up on your blog this evening and see that I missed your post last evening about Shirley's "taking in & not out" the garbage, well, I guess did get outside in a gastrointestional way...I'm so glad your sweet girl is feeling better and I hope your Belov-ED is able to get some rest too!!!
Oh, KBL (listen to this comment in a scratchy smokey HAWT voice. Ok?)
You hit the nail on the head with this one....if your man can't hang a night with a sick puppy, dump his silly self. THe proof is in the pudding. He is a man's man. A woman's man. A dog's man.
What a great guy...he goes over and above what he needs to do in life. I lurrrve him.
I am glad the shirly bird is ok today. Looking for that morning banana? SO CUTE!!!!
She can come visit me anytime.
I am soooo glad your sweet fluffy girl is OK.
And you TOTALLY nailed it with your proclamation on what makes a REAL man. You know, when our son was young (and had a lot of health problems), Hubster was right there "at bat" just as much as I was.... and each time, it proved to me what a GOOD MAN he was (is!) Character must BE there... I tell my single girlfriends not to "settle" on those issues... they will regret it later.
Show your sweet hubby some Extra Lovin' this weekend. ;)
I agree with you...that's good advice. I love that nurturing quality (Gregg has it too). Your Belov-Ed is a treasure...please give him kudos, thanks and hugs from his fans up north.
Yikes! Poor Shirely. Just read the last post...she certainly did have a grand time chowing down on the garbage. It's amazing the things dogs will eat. Night duty for dog watch. Been there, done that. Good guy your Ed. The things we do for love.
The arms flailing had me cracking up. I'm laughing and crying at the same time. Glad to see Shirley has recovered from her feast.
Definitely a wonderful husband. Glad Shirley is doing all right.
I always approach those experiences with a grim "game face" while I am sorta chuckling inside (if I know the dog's gonna be alright). In face, we just had a little "coffee grounds on the floor" incident last night when we got home. But the "inventory" was much smaller that what that dog o'yours put away!
