Time Flies When I'm Having Fun

Today exactly is 3 years exactly that we decided to leave the drama of Catholic vs. Muslim family demands behind and elope to Rome, Italy. Best decision we have ever made.

08-08-08...if I were a numbers person (numerologist?) I would say it was all meant to be on that date, destiny, fate, kismet, what have you. All I can say is that I've never in my life had more fun than being married to my Edward. We were together for 5 years prior, but it has been beyond special since 08-08-08.

With the 5 years prior, it makes it 8 years that I've been blessed to spend with a person that I like so much, whom I adore and love, and who I respect beyond words. There is literally not a day that has gone by in our 8 years together that we haven't laughed together. And I am including the days we have lost our beloved dogs, Ed has always found a way to remember a funny tale or make a comical observation. He is my heart.

I was up early this morning thinking back on my memories thus far. Our old place with our first dog, Nick, and what fun it was being introduced to Christmas traditions!

Our first trip together of many to Newport, Rhode Island. It is now our favorite vacation destination.

And, of course, Rome, Italy. Sweltering hot day on the 8th of August is when we were married. It was the most relaxed, most stress free wedding I'd ever been a part of. We literally made decisions flying by the seat of our pants. It was so liberating!
I still can't believe that a girl born in the poor nation of Afghanistan grew up to meet this man and be married in ROME.

Chiesa di Santa Susana, our church. As a woman, I loved the story of Santa Susana and her inner strength, her determination for free will in a time of patriarchy and tradition, it was a tremendous.

A handful of friends and my sister joined us for the festivities, she walked me down the aisle. It was a magical day, just as a wedding day should be.

Our hotel garden where we decided at the last minute to hold a cake & prosecco party after the wedding.

After a nightmarish, bumpy start worthy of a Travel Channel horror episode, we escaped to Platja d'Aro, Spain on the Costa Brava. Time stopped in a capsule on our honeymoon.

Even before we were married, 8/8 was a celebratory party day for us. It was the day smack dead in the middle of our birthdays. Mine on 8/6 and Ed's on 8/10. We always took the day off on 8/8 to go out and celebrate our birhtdays together. And as I said, if I were a numerologist, I'd say it was fate that we were also married on 8/8.

With that, on this day off that we have together today, I wish a happy anniversary and a very happy birthday to my Belov-Ed, my heart of hearts, my best friend, my favorite person in the universe....you make me feel ethereal.
