Iconic and mystical, Van Morrison is a favorite of many. He is one of mine for many reasons, but primarily because every single lyric he writes is an actual story. There is no filler. I appreciate that. I love to listen to a person’s story, and I can do it all day long. What better way to do it than in song?
“Cleaning Windows” is simply a fabulous tune. One of my favorites by Van the Man because it is just infectiously *happy*. There is a be-bop, hop, and a skip to the melody and the tempo is just perfect for twirling in the sunshine. It’s off his Beautiful Vision album, but you can find it on many of his greatest hits box sets.
Mark Knopfler plays guitar on this song. If you don’t recognize the name, you’ll recognize his familiar rhythms from his days with Dire Straits, another beloved band of mine. Knopfler is a tremendous guitarist and I always recognize his riffs and rhythms when he’s a guest on another artist’s song. In my humble opinion, he is a guitar genius. His guitar playing off the saxophone is pure joy.
Van tells the story of being content and at ease with his work as he is destined for better promises. His life is happy, he loves his simple interests, and takes satisfaction from what his work will lead him to eventually.
I hope you enjoy “Cleaning Windows” as much as I do, and I hope that when you hear it, it makes you want to snap your fingers and roll down the car window, let the breeze dance on your face, that it reminds you to be grateful for what you have and for what's in store for you, and that it makes you HAPPY. :-)

Yeah, something special about Van the Man. I've been known to sing "Brown Eyed Girl" to our dogs over the years...except the latest dog ain't no girl, so I'll have to come up with another song for him.
