During the NFL season, you’ll often find him hangin’ out in his comfy La-Z-Boy chair (Valentine’s Day gift from yours truly) sportin’ a pair of Miami Dolphins house pants watching football. (Sue, does Coach have a pair? If not, we'll have to send a pair his way for next year!)
NO GIRLS ALLOWED in Man Cave, unless she has 4 hairy legs and 6-8 nipples, in which case she’s granted an all-access pass. Laverne was this year's season pass holder. She’s Daddy’s Girl alright.
Of Laverne & Shirley, it is definitely Laverne who has formed an attachment to Milo. She likes to sleep alongside him, much like Milo used to do with Achilles when he was alive. Milo loves it. He’s always preferred sleeping with his spine braced against something warm. It makes me happy to see this because I know how much he misses Achilles.
This was New Year’s Eve. Laverne fell asleep with her head on my leg, while Milo slept along the length of it. Shirley was on the other side of Milo. We’d been away visiting Ed’s family in Connecticut for 13 days and I had missed them so much. It was good to feel their warmth and love against me as we welcomed in 2010.
Tell me you don’t love my blue & gold Navy polka dot socks! I know, I know. You’ve never known such a fantabulous fashionista. I wore them because Navy played Missouri in the Texas Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Navy won 35-13. It was a GREAT GAME. You can see the Navy "N" and star on the sock by Laverne's head. My favorite tailgating attire!!!
Before we left for our east coast holiday vacation, we had an early Christmas dinner & celebration in San Diego. It was bittersweet since we knew we’d be leaving our furbabies for a long time. Milo ALWAYS knows something is up when the suitcases come out, and he was not a happy boy.
At our pre-Christmas dinner he was extra, extra, extra needy for affection and love. He claimed the BEST spot for the after dinner, "let-your-pants-out-and-relax" portion of the night. He was guaranteed unfettered & unlimited access to petting, kisses, and massage time.
He was beyond happy, and meanwhile, Laverne & Shirley were trying to get at some more of the Christmas turkey meatloaf. Ha!
Give me love, love, love, and more love.
Asian eyes! He does that when he’s extra, super-duper happy. When Milo does this I think he must be “LOL-ing”!!!! Because if ever there was a picture to define “LOL”…this is it!
My pretty Shirley Bird is a bit of a destroyer. She is interested in all things shreddable, tearable, breakable, de-stuffable, and crushable. Santa got her a green Christmas lobster, but she was just as happy tearing up tissue paper. Go figure!
Milo and Santa.
Attack of the Battleship Lavernicus!!! She wanted her red Christmas lobster like yesterday.
Before she discovered there was tissue paper to be mangled, Shirley Bug was just as fanatical about her green Christmas lobster.
I’d say Laverne & Shirley’s first Christmas with us was pretty successful. They also took part in the annual Christmas turkey breast dinner, which they didn’t complain about.
Which was pretty similar to the Thanskgiving feast they also enjoyed, to say the least. They nearly knocked our guests over rushing over to their food dishes.
Shirley Pie very much resembles my sweet-faced Achilles, especially when she sleeps like this. The color of her fur and its waviness is an uncanny match to Achilles’ fur. I miss Achilles tremendously and watching Shirley tugs at my heart.
I believe in God’s kindness, so I truly believe there was a reason why he led us to Laverne & Shirley when we were only interested in one dog to rescue. Whereas Laverne is daddy’s girl, Shirley is all about mama. She is my shadow, exactly how Achilles, and our first boy Nick, used to be. She is also Milo’s competition for my attention and my time. Come bedtime, they both lie down head to butt on my side of the bed.
All the dogs of our lives. First Nick, then Achilles & Milo, and now Milo and Laverne & Shirley. They make our house a home and gift us with incomparable love & loyalty.
Perfect, sweet, gentle, loving creatures of our land, unless you happen to buy toy dolls for your Halloween "Octo-mom" costume.

Your golden pics just fill my heart with so much happiness and warmth. I looked like Milo "LOLing" while reading this entire post. LOVE THEM SOOOOOOO MUCH! We are so blessed and lucky to share this earth with these creatures!
This was such a cute post. Thanks for sharing these pictures. Too cute!! BTW, is it just me, or has working like a maniac caused you to lose weight? You certainly didn't need to, but you lookeso thin in these pictures, I'm a little worried....
Laura - so true, they light up my life and we ARE truly blessed. I'm glad you enjoyed the pics.
Chitown - LOL! Not! No weight loss, if anything, I've gained some with the holidays and the fact that I've been in a soft boot cast because of an injured left foot. It has put a real damper on my spinning and running!
Okay, the baby's head is a little bit scary. Otherwise, your golden babies are as beautiful as can be. I can't imagine how you can navigate the rooms of your house with all of those paws and tails wagging, as well as their appetites for love AND food! It looks like a houseful of love and joy.
I meant to tell you that one of David's friends (a girl) was accepted into the Naval Academy AND West Point for next fall! What a great gal; I've loved her since she was in 1st grade with him.
