“Antebellum” is used to refer to a time before a war or struggle, and our history books generally use it to refer to it to the period before the Civil War. At least that’s where I’ve always seen the word.
When I first heard the name of this group, I was intrigued. Their music, lyrics, and song compilations do have a certain antiqued, vintage patina about them, but for the most part, their group name doesn’t have much to do with anything in their music. I found out from one of their interviews that the name came about from a costume shoot they were involved in. So much for my intrigue!
They’ve just released their second album, but it was their debut album that knocked my socks off. Just a solid country-pop crossover record. I really appreciate it when musicians write and compose their craft. Not that I don’t love my fair share of Euro trash dance electronica, but there is something just so fulfilling about a group like Lady Antebellum.
For you fans of pop star Josh Kelley, his brother is Charles Kelley, who along with Dave Haywood and Hillary Scott, make up Lady Antebellum. If you’re a country music fan, you’ll recognize the name Linda Davis. Yah, that’s Hillary’s mom.
This is off their newest (second) album, and it is a heart-string tugging, melodic tune. I love that it’s not sugar coated or glossed over. Sometimes you just are a little drunk or out of it, and your emotions run the gamut. I’m glad someone wrote a song for those “special” times in our lives. Don’t lie, we’ve all had them. The line, “And I wonder if I ever cross your mind, For me it happens all the time,” is just a gut wrenching, emotional plea. I know I am not the only one who has ever wondered the very same thought, right?
Need You Now
Picture perfect memories,
Scattered all around the floor.
Reaching for the phone cause, I can’t fight it any more.
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind.
For me it happens all the time.
It’s a quarter after one, I’m all alone and I need you now.
Said I wouldn’t call but I lost all control and I need you now.
And I don’t know how I can do without, I just need you now.
Another shot of whiskey, can’t stop looking at the door.
Wishing you’d come sweeping in the way you did before.
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind.
For me it happens all the time.
It’s a quarter after one, I’m a little drunk,
And I need you now.
Said I wouldn’t call but I lost all control and I need you now.
And I don’t know how I can do without, I just need you now.
Yes I’d rather hurt than feel nothing at all.
It’s a quarter after one, I’m all alone and I need you now.
And I said I wouldn’t call but I’m a little drunk and I need you now.
And I don’t know how I can do without, I just need you now.
I just need you now.
Oh baby I need you now.
Lady Antebellum is up for two Grammy’s this weekend, and I hope they win. “I Run to You” is simply a remarkable song, one part love song, one part life introspection. It’s the song that first made me fall for them. I remember hearing the line, “And our love’s the only truth, that’s why I run to you.” I was hooked. Well-written, thought provoking lyrics get me ever time.
This is for my Belov-Ed, the one I run to. Thank you my handsome baby love, thank you for always being there for me.
I Run To You
I run from hate
I run from prejudice
I run from pessimists
But I run too late
I run my life
Or is it running me
Run from my past
I run too fast
Or too slow it seems
When lies become the truth
That’s when I run to you
Chorus
This world keeps spinning faster
Into a new disaster so I run to you
I run to you baby
And when it all starts coming undone
Baby you’re the only one I run to
I run to you
We run on fumes
Your life and mine
Like the sands of time
Slippin’ right on through
And our love’s the only truth
That’s why I run to you

Since you are a fan of country music...have you heard of the Zac Brown Band? They are labeled country, but are more southern rock. I have been to MANY concerts, in MANY different musical genres, but their show was the BEST LIVE concert I have EVER been to!! I think you will enjoy them. (Found your blog thanks to smileygirl. Love all the pictures and videos of your furbabies and feathered friend.)
