Tune in Thursday - Dwight Yoakam

I started off with Music Mondays, did two posts, and have now decided to switch to Tune-In Thursdays. A girl can change her mind, right? Right. Fellow Blogistanis o’ mine, please feel free to join in if you’d like.

I LOVE MUSIC. I think most folks do. Many people don’t know this, but I’m a fan of country music and an even bigger fan of the Blues. Those that don’t know don’t not because I haven’t told them, but just because it has never come up. I often wondered what it would be like DJ my own party and see the looks on my friends’ faces as each individual track came one. I literally like all kinds of music, but more importantly, I love most of everything I like.

There is a program on LinkTV called “World Music” in which they explore music from around the globe. Most of it is great, some of it strange, but still great, and some just flat out strange, but I still like it! I especially enjoy learning about the background meaning of music for a culture, a people, a faith, or a movement. So cool.

Hey, have I told ya’ll that Ed and I are opposites in many things? Yah? Ok, well, music is another one of them. He doesn’t like country or Blues. What keeps our shared car rides in a state of zen & joy is the fact that I like all of his music, even though he doesn’t like all of mine. It works out in the end. Well hell, it has to!

Furthermore, have I told you that I love line dancing, and that I used to be the belle of the ball at The Cadillac Ranch in Elgin, Illinois every Friday night? I rocked my sexy low-rise 501s with my boots way before low rise jeans ever hit the trendy markets. Yup, your friendly neighborhood Muslim gal from Afghanistan could cut up the rug with the best of the cowboys & cowgirls! I was a hip swingin’ lady monster to the Boot Scootin’ Boogie, T.R.O.U.B.L.E., and of course, Fast As You, which to this day remains one of my all time favorite line dancing songs. Here is a link since YouTube won’t allow me to embed it here.

I am a HUGE fan of Dwight Yoakam, he is one of my favorite country singers. I’ve seen him live and it was phenomenal. He is also a rather decent actor! Anyone seen “Sling Blade” or “Panic Room”? Pretty good for a country boy!

Funny thing is, as much as I loved line dancing, I could never figure out the darned Two-Step! What the French Toast!? Go figure, right?

What about you? Any favorites of Dwight you’d like to share?

Oh my Lord, I finally found something we don't agree on. I had NO idea you were a fan of country music. No idea. I can totally picture you line dancing, though. Too cute! I'm pretty sure I would rather have a root canal than listen to country music. I just realized this is one more thing BELOVED and I have in common. It's official - you married the male version of me!! :)

I always thought Dwight Yoakam just SOUNDS country, based on his name alone...I am a huge music nut myself and pretty eclectic. Though my taste runs toward progressive rock, we have a great time some Saturday nights doin' the western style square dancin'!

I do like Dwight. I do like some country music. I SO wanted to learn line dancing. When we lived in TX I even bought a vhs tape to learn by!! I had/have some majorly awesome boots too...too bad they are size 6.5 and I now wear 7.5!!! and I I could see you cutting a rug...in your low rise jeans. You are too cute!!!!
Variety is the spice of life my friend!

No Dwight Yoakam info, but I have to ask if you know this CD: Zucchero & Co. (In Blues We Trust)? I am not knowledgeable about blues, but I LOVE this CD. Starbucks sold it years ago, and I found it on amazon.com, too. It's all duets, with Sheryl Crow, John Lee Hooker, Sting, Macy Gray, etc. YUMMY!

I've loved The Back of Your Hand. I like the sad, depressing songs.
