Q is for.....

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Q <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

As in the Q Fashion Show I attended yesterday!

My good friend Abdul Qadir Hamidi is an aspiring fashion designer and he showed his first ever collection yesterday. If you all remember, he made my wedding dress last year. He is from Afghanistan and we share a similar family history. It makes me so very proud to see his success arriving.

It was Abdul's "2009 Q Summer Collection" and it featured his Coral Reef line (tropical, punchy colors, very fun), his Raw line (exquisite, comfortable fabrics all in natural colors), and his Midnight Star line (gorgeous, elegant, and full of texture). The weather was simply amazing and the fashion show was held at the home of one of Abdul's friends. A gorgeous home in the Mission Hills neighborhood of San Diego. It was a great time.

My very good friend, Linnea, was one of Abdul’s models, and I think she was the most perfect model for his clothes. All the ladies were beautiful, but something about Linnea just rocked in Q’s clothes. I believe it is her height and her dark features. She wore my favorite piece of Q’s entire collection, this super-sexy blouse in midnight blue. Ooooh, Blogistan, I wish you could feeeeeel that fabric. Can you say LUXURIOUS???!!!

Linnea is a Cordon Bleu trained chef, and her blogs are Savvy Cuisine and Vastidy (see my links). She’s one of those cooks who is blessed with the genes to NOT show 1 ounce of all the delicious food she eats. She looked absolutely incredible in everything she wore from Q’s collection. She’s not a trained professional model, but she carried herself better than most models you’ll see on any international runway. It was so cool watching her strut her stuff!

Here's a model in piece from the Coral Reef line that I really liked a lot.

And another model in a hot orange dress I also loved.
All of Abdul’s friends chipped in to help him make his big day happen. Our friend Roselle (her blog is La Bete Handmade in my links) really got involved BIG time. She looooooves couture. As you can tell from her blog, she’s creative and artistic in her very own right. She’s also a super science brainiac and runs an amazing home with her 3 little kiddies and her hubby.

On the other hand, I was honored to be entrusted with the care and protection of Sir Winston. Here he is in all his glory. :-) (Yah, go figure, someone thought I would want this job. I wonder why!? Ha ha ha hah!!!)
Winston is Abdul's BAAAABY. Oh, Winston just loves his Abdul daddy! It was my responsibility to make sure that Winston didn't jump on the models, didn't go running amuk on the runway, and most importantly, to make sure he didn't get too upset about being away from his daddy. Poor Winston. He was soooo very upset to be kept away from his papa, but as soon as the show ended, he got to run up on the runway and kissed Abdul a million times. It was SO CUTE!

I've made the fashion show pictures and videos public on my Flickr site. I would love it if you all checked it out and let me know what you think. Here's the link:

There are 8 short videos (less than 20 seconds each) at the end of the pictures, and if you want a good laugh, check out the one where Winston nearly took my arm off in excitement when he saw Abdul. It was all I could do to hold on to the leash! I thought my chair was going to fall back into the people behind me.

Abdul is working on completing his website and I'll post that as soon as I receive it. He's taking orders! You should have seen all the people at the order table after the show. Now I'm going to put my energy into hoping that a store will pick up his line ASAP. The 3 different collections he featured yesterday are just the tip of the iceberg.

So, that's my letter "Q" for A to Z Mondays!!! The timing was perfect, huh?!

OK, way out of my element here, but the Q collection (Q for Qadir?) looks like a winner to me. And Winston looks way too much like our dear departed Silky.... (but I enjoyed the picture - it takes something to draw my eye away from all those models, but that dog picture did just that!)

Awesome stuff! I love the bright colors. Abdul is very talented!

It was so great to meet you and Ed yesterday, and to finally meet your beautiful boys in real life. Such a sweet family you have!

I've been thinking about Achilles all day. My heart is heavy with yours. Please let me know how things are going. I promise to keep him and you in my prayers.

Keep your chin up, and PLEASE let me know if there is anything I can do.

Warm hugs from our family to yours.

What an opportune Q!! Looks like the fashion show was a success. Your chef/model friend is lovely. The blouse was pretty too, but only for you young ladies. I need things with no waste and lots of extra cloth to cover my chubiness!
Winston is so pretty too!We always had English Springers growing up,so I have a soft heart for them still.
