Farmer KBL

I got in my head that I wanted to recreate "Little Kabul" in our newly remodeled front and back yards. I really, really want it to feel like my grandmother's home from my childhood.

So, with the major portion of the landscaping done, i.e., lawn and irrigation systems, it has been a busy couple of weeks getting the rest of my "greenery" into the ground. I pre-ordered many bareroot and seedling items from Armstrong Nursery, and I've been working on getting them planted. Hopefully it will all be done by this weekend, and hopefully, my back (and Gilberto's back) won't give out!

Some edibles:
Pomegranate tree
Moroccan blood orange tree
Concord dark purple grapes
Perlette green grapes
O'Neal blueberries
Cherry tomatoes
Early Girl tomatoes
Big Beef tomatoes
Mexican limes (maybe, the tree is not looking so good in the baby pot)
Serrano chili peppers (spicy!)
Dill
Italian flat Parsley
Basil (seed)
Basil (seedling)
Rosemary
Thyme
Garlic Chives
Cilantro (I'm keeping it far from the other herbs so as to not gross out Smileygirl)

Other than edibles:
The "Beloved" Rose (that's its name, no joke, so I couldn't help but plant it in honor of my very own Beloved)
"America" climbing rose
"Sweet Autumn" Clematis (which name always makes me think of clitoris. Well! It does! I can't help it.)
Blue Nemesia
Lavender and white Sweet Alyssum
Hot orange and hot yellow summer Mums
A hot color variety of Gladioli under the Nemesia & Alyssum, so come June & July, a color explosion!
Lavender wisteria

To be determined:
Azaleas for our shady side lawn
Clematis (another clitoris sounding name. Dammit!)
California Lilac treelets
Miscellaneous annuals to fill in the empty spaces between plants, if any.

Please call for help if you haven't heard from me in a week. I might have gotten myself buried alive under the GINORMOUS bags of "soil amendments" a.k.a. "nutritional dung" a.k.a. various animals' shit.

Yah, it is going to be on this weekend. Temperatures have been so warm lately, so if I don't get them all done and planted by this weekend, I'll lose some of the baby plants in their plastic pods.

Anyone got a pair of overalls I could borrow? :-)

WOW! This sounds like your very own Garden of Eden back there, KBL! It's going to be amazing! (And I'm not one to overuse the word "amazing", believe me!) I can't wait to see pictures!!

You know, when I read Hosseini's two books (which were wonderful - I loved them both so much), I really fell in love with Afghanistan and her people. I'm sure your grandmother's garden was beautiful and your have such warm memories of your childhood there...
Your re-creation of that will be a wonderful way to honor her. That's really very touching and sweet.

I do, but I am thinking that they won't fit over your BOOB SCARF! (still laughing)
I love seeing this list. You are such a loving and nurturing person that I'm sure your garden will blossom and be super happy under your care. Take & post pics as it starts to sprout and grow!
