Yes We Did!!! :-)

No matter your political affiliation, the history we witnessed tonight was incredibly moving, incredibly fascinating, and incredibly INCREDIBLE. WOW. I was alive and well when I witnessed Obama elected for President. We were all a part of our country's history, no matter who we voted for. This country continues to blaze trails for everyone else to try and imitate.

Tonight is the definition of the reason why people like my parents, and millions of other immigrants and refugees, sacrifice EVERYTHING to set foot on this country's soil. Because inside of her borders you are free to embrace an opportunity that may come your way, able to vote for your leader, and most importantly, realize your dreams. I don't care how cheesy that may sound, you have to come from or experience 99% percent of the rest of the world where you cannot even imagine the concept of having a dream.

I love that as a woman and a Middle Eastern immigrant, I was able to walk into a polling station, put pen to paper, and freely note my choice for my leader, without fear or limitations. Friends often ask me why I don't vote by mail. I don't because I still get a thrill from just the very act of putting pen to paper for my free choice. I LOVE personally and physically being able to vote. Nothing compares to that thrill for me. Like I said, it takes coming from a place where you don't have that to really appreciate it.

This is a tremendous country. I am blessed and privileged to be here, to witness what I have, and to call this country my home. I love America. I LOVE AMERICA!!!

KBL,
You beautifully encapsulated what it means to be an American.

And last night was truly amazing. I think the "American Dream" was rescued from the floodwaters of apathy last night... it was truly a magnificent evening.... I really didn't want to go to bed.

Part of me wants to move to Washington and just HELP his administration and HELP to heal this country's wounds and HELP to conquer the many challenges ahead.

I will help, of course, from here, as much as I can.

And let's all pray for our new President, that God may guide him and bless him, and that God may continue to bless our great country - GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

We can learn so much from listening to your experience, KBL.
I was happy to see that lots of people appreciated & exercised their right to vote this year. I am thankful to live here, too.
I pray that the new president and his cabinet will be guided by the wisdom of history - its good and bad parts - and the high ideals and values upon which we were founded, to serve this country (and to care about our brothers and sisters all over the world). God bless you, sweet friend; I'm so glad that you are here!
P.S. How was Mexico?

Ladies, I am still riding high from last night. God bless this new administration. It will be on heck of a 4 year presidency with immense challenges...but America always survives and comes out ahead. Wooo hooo!

Love this post and you too my patriotic friend!

Last night was incredible as you said.

Right after it was announced that Obama won Tom says, "Cool! Can I switch to the golf channel now?" You'd never know it was a historical event in our house as long as the Big Break is on. I gave Tom the death stare so instead he quietly DVR'd it.

We had to do the vote by mail this year and you're right, it doesn't generate the same thrill as entering the polls and doing it live. But at least it still counts!

KBL - unrelated note - my daughter came into the room and she said "Whose blog is that?" and I said "KBL." And she said "Awww... are there new videos of Milo and Achilles?"

Seriously. This is my 11 year old KID and she remembered your dogs' names!!

OK, now you HAVE to put up new puppy videos! You have a 5th grader in Georgia, anxiously waiting! :-)

Golden retrievers still want what isn't theirs no matter who wins elections. I feel Ed's pain as you did your happy dance.
