"Hello? Oh, hey! How are you?!"
"Hi KBL! We haven't seen you in so long and wanted to come over and visit! How are you and Ed doing? You busy today?"
"No, not at all. We'd love to see you! What time were you thinking of coming over?"
"Oh, how does 6:30 sound?"
"Sounds good. Can't wait to see you guys!"
"Yeah, we're excited too. Umm, how are your dogs doing?"
"Oh, Achilles and Milo? They're doing great! Thanks for asking. They are going to be so excited when you guys come over. They just love company."
(Couple of seconds of hesitation and uncomfortable laughter)
"Oh, that's so sweet, but, ummm, you know how we feel about dogs. I'm so sorry, but would it be ok if they could be put away in another room while we're over? I hate to ask that, knowing how much you love your dogs and all, but you know how it is...."
"Put away our dogs you say? In another room? And close the door on them? Oh, no worries! We don't mind doing that at all. Sure, cuz we know that the next time we come over to your house you will keep your children locked away in another room, especially your cute 4 year old with the perpetual boogery nose. So, yah, no problem, come on over!"
(Uncomfortable laughter) "Uhhhh, ooookkkaaaaay, you're kidding right?"
(Totally gushing) "Oh noooo, not at all! I'm sure you wouldn't mind, would you? I know how much you love your children, but you know how it is...."

hmm, a certain 7 letter word comes to mind... Not cool, not cool- AT ALL!
Good riddance!
Unless they are deathly allergic to dog fur, which I assume they are not because they couldn't have even come into your home, that is just downright NERVY!
And who the hell wouldn't want Achilles and Milo around? Hell that's one of the reasons I loved coming to visit you!
kids are waaayyyy worse than animals.
Wow. That is rude and presumptuous of them. I am so glad that you were honest with them, in your sweet way. No great loss, and besides, where could that relationship possibly go, if they don't love your furbabies? Nowhere. Good on ya, matey!
I can NOT believe this was an actual conversation you had with someone!! Seriously, WTF?!?
What an idiot. They invited themselves over...even at dinner time and then asked you to put up the dogs? who needs friends like that. Love your comeback. Perfect.
I can't believe someone actually had the nerve to ask you that!! What incredibly RUDE and thoughtless people!
And - HELLO - we're talking about Milo and Achilles here - quite possibly, the two SWEETEST dogs on the entire West Coast!!
Heck, now even I am offended!!
How rude! (I hope they read your blog!)
I used to have "friends" like that...emphasis on the "used to"...good for you for taking a stand for your furbabies!
