He is simply Belov-Ed, husband or not. I've always introduced him as "my love". This is going to take some getting used to. I just got used to saying "fiance". Hmmm....this will be most interesting. Stay tuned...
Speaking of 08-08-08, I went up to LA and Orange County yesterday to search for fabric for my dress. I was going to get a simple gown at Nordstrom that I really liked, but then my friend Abdul offered to make my dress for me! I was profoundly touched. He's a designer and is working on his own line. He'll be on Project Runway in a couple of seasons. Best thing is that he's Afghani, so he knows exactly what I want in a dress. I want to incorporate some of my heritage into a modern, simple dress.
So, we finally ended up in Artesia. We hit up Middle Eastern stores of all kinds. "Little India" was fun! The sights, sounds, colors, aromas....
Lots of Bollywood stuff all over...
I got busted for taking a picture of this Indian wedding gown. It is $14,500!!! Every little piece of detail is handsewn. The lady totally YELLED at me. She scared the shit out of me because she barked right into my ear from behind me. "Lady, no peectures allowed!!!" Yikes!!!
After a robust Indian buffet lunch at Ashoka (yuuuuumy!!!), Abdul and I could barely walk to the next store. My lips were still on fire from the flavorful spicy peppers. I ate SO much and SO fast that my stomach was in pain. I could feel it all distended. I haven't done that since Ed and I went to Zorba's last fall. I felt like such a glutton. We were both just so hungry and dehydrated after hiking through one shop, then another, then another.....
We were at the next store when I started to feel as if I was going to puke. Oh boy. Abdul asked if I was ok before I was running off to the bathroom. The owner lady came running up to the bathroom door yelling in broken, Indian accented English,
"Lady! Lady! Miss?? You please going to vomeet? Please no vomeet?! I bring bag you, ok?! Please Miss Lady, towelet not working. No watah either. Miss? You ok? Please you be ok, ok?"
I was mortified. I tried to tell her everything was alright, but she kept hollering out there for the entire store to hear. When I finally came out she asked why I didn't wait for a bag. Ummm, there was no time lady! I had gorged on Indian food and my tummy needed to make room!
Ok, after that little fiasco, Abdul held up the PERFECT fabric for my dress. Sooo shimmery, so light. Pure vanilla silk with silk gold thread to complete the Afghani style embroidery on the hem, cuffs, and warrior sash. Funny that I found the perfect fabric at the shop where I threw up. Ha ha ha!!! I think the owner forgave me for the "vomeet" incident when I plopped my cash down. the only thing that sucks is that I forgot to take pictures of my fabric!!! Me? Forget to take a picture? Stop the presses!!!
Speaking of Belov-Ed, today was interesting. As I've tried to explain to others, it is not religion that gets us all riled up. Oh no. Politics and sports. Our topics of "debate". Always.
The Yankees were on today and he got to watch them on Big TV. Cubs were on Sunday Night Baseball, so I decided I'd watch it on Big TV. Oh, but I forgot! The Celtics were playing game 2 tonight also. Guess WHO is a Celtics fan and wanted to hog Big TV for the basketball game? It was interesting to say the least, but it worked out in the end. I can't wait for the remodel to be completed so Ed can have his Man Cave. Big TV will be aaaalllllll mine. Bwaaa-ha-ha-ha!!! (insert evil grin here)
The boys were in rare form this weeknd. They were a hoot to be around. Milo and mommy had alone time on the morning walk today. We sat and felt the cool breeze off the bay together. I talked to him and he put his head in my lap. He's such a sweet boy. My little Love-Love he is.
We tried to work with the boys on getting used to a dog door. We're having a dog door built into the wall for them. So we decided to rig up a pretend landing for them and see what they'd do. We thought that after some practice they'd get the hang of it. Yaaaaaah. NOT so successful.
We tried to bribe Achilles with treats, but we just couldn't get him to step through the door. We even tried piling up pavers so that they didn't have to step down so far. Here he is smiling his goofy puppy smile at me.
He would crane his neck out as far as possible to try and reach the treats, but he wouldn't step through! It was sooo frustrating.
Milo was no better. He just stood there smiling and wagging his tail. Goofball.
We tried, and tried, and tried, and tried. We finally gave up. We couldn't think of any way to get them to come through the dog door. Any ideas? Help!
But, Mighty Achilles had nooooo problems with nap-time! Milo was more interested in love time with papa bear.
No matter what he does Milo always looks like he's laughing.
Achilles' head and face are so perfectly "Golden".
If he's not napping, then Achilles is keeping you company as you eat. You know, just in case you weren't hungry. Why else would you have warmed up a plate for lunch!? It must be for Achilles!
Achilles is really good about being patient and sitting & waiting for you to give him a treat after you're done eating. But God help you if you dawdle in getting him his treat...
I've got so much to do this week. I've got to make up my mind on paint and tile choices. I've got tons of stuff to take care of for my mom and grandma. Work will be a bit stressful this week. Going to Chicago for Father's Day weekend. My dad retired last month, so he'll finally move out here to be with Mommy and Bobo. It's been very hard having him so far away, but at least Lil Sis is there with him. She's actually moving out here this summer as well. I am so thrilled. I have missed her like crazy. It's just going to a nutty week all around. One cool thing I get to do though....
DEMOLISH!!!
Oh ya baby. Ed is letting me use his sledgehammer tomorrow morning to help bring down some walls with the contractors. Fun!!! Seeing as to how I'm a bit accident prone, I'm going to have to keep an eye out for flying objects. Otherwise, I'm going to have a "blast"!!!! Get it? A "blast"!!! Ha ha ha. I kill me! ;-)
Sleep well Blogistan.

Wow - that's quite a post there, missy - busy, busy weekend you had!
The "vomeet" story is priceless.... but how humiliating for you! LOL...
Can't wait to see a picture of your dress. I'm sure it is gorgeous!
8-8-08.... going to be here Very Soon! So exciting! :-)
I think I would have gotten excited enough to feel sick, too, if I had been surrounded by dresses (and fabric) like the one you showed. I often get light-headed in fabric stores; there is so much visual stimulation and I feel like hyperventilating. Quite understandable, plus, it is your WEDDING dress, for goodness' sake! Who wouldn't be feeling faint with joy?
Your sports-watching stories just crack me up. I thought of you last night when I was printing out the road profile maps for ALL 21 STAGES of the Tour de France from the Tour website. I could feel the adrenaline building again; I'm a TOTAL Tour junkie, and I love the Triple Crown horse races, as well. I finally made the connection to your sports addiction; AHA, it's just about different sports here. NOW I get it!
I hope you have a great week, navigating all of your projects. The sledgehammer sounds like great fun.
P.S. We can't train our cats to do what we want them to do, either, and your golden boys are soooo sweet and handsome! It's got to be nearly impossible to argue with a face like that.
I can't wait to see pictures of the dress - it sounds gorgeous! Think of all the frustrations you can get out with a sledgehammer:)
It's wonderful that your sister is moving closer to you - your golden babies must be ecstatic!
I can't believe you're actually going to be here this weekend, and I won't get to see you!! I'm sure you have every moment planned out. But, I so wish you could squeeze in some time to meet :( Maybe next time....
I can't wait to see pictures of your dress, it sounds gorgeous. I can't believe you only have two months left. I have to admit, I almost choked on my food at your expense when I got to the "vomeet" part.
I suggest laying a little path of their favorite treats (like chicken) to lure them out, and having a sqeaky toy as well. Goldens can be so finicky. Where will you all be staying in Vegas? My money has been sent out so this one is set in stone. Laura has my yahoo messenger ID if you want to chat.
