Some sad news this holiday season. Random as it may be, it was still very sad and sobering for me to read that the Pigeon Man is dead. While reading Chicago Tribune online I saw the link to this story and my heart did a flip-flop.
When I was at DePaul University, we'd drive around Lincoln Park and the north side visiting friends, going to various restaurants, Blues joints, bookstores, and what not. If I was lucky I'd see the Pigeon Man with his family of hungry birds on a north side fire hydrant. He was the most adorable man. The way he'd sit hunched over like that always reminded me of my Bobo who sits the same way when she's sewing or crocheting. Bobo also feeds birds, squirrels and stray cats all day long.
May you rest in peace, Pigeon Man. Your flock of children will surely miss you.

gee, I'm a little embarrassed to admit I've never heard of the Pigeon man, and I've lived here my entire life. Well, in all fairness, he was a northside legend, and I've always been southside trash!
