Tune in Thursday - Dave Matthews Band

This is "Two Step" by one of my all time favorite bands, the magnetic Dave Matthews Band. I'm impressed with the manner in which Dave expresses complex & profound human emotions in very simple lyrics. I used to think this was a simple love song, and then I read an interview in a music magazine. It's a song about love in a time of war, and he was specifically thinking of the Vietnam War. Love outlives our humble, human flesh.

Maybe it was a love affair between a Vietnamese woman and an American soldier? Or perhaps a nurse and her patient on the battlefield? It is amazing how true lovers find a way to be with, and within, each other, no matter what is going on in the surrounding world. And he found a way to sing about it.

Music is art, and one can extrapolate and have it define what we may be feeling in the moment. For me, this song has been on repeat the past few weeks, for many reasons. Our current moment is my war, and I hold on to Belov-Ed, climbing two by two, to be sure these days continue. Caught up in the speed and urgency of our modern professions, I pray for him and remain patient. For he is my beloved, the one who quenches my heart. And when the world settles down, celebrate we will....for life most certainly is sweet, but short for certain.

Two Step
Say, my love, I came to you
With best intentions
You laid down and gave to me just what
I'm seeking
Love, you drive me to distraction

Hey my love do you believe that we
Might last a thousand years
Or more if not for this?
Our flesh and blood it ties
You and me right up
Tie me Down

Celebrate we will
Because life is short but sweet for certain
We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue,
These things we cannot change

Hey, my love, you came to me like
Wine comes to this mouth
Grown tired of water all the time
You quench my heart and you
Quench my mind

Celebrate we will
Because life is short but sweet for certain
We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue,
The things we cannot

Celebrate, you and me, climbing
Two by two, to be sure
These days continue, things we cannot change

Oh, my love, I came to you
With best intentions
You laid down and gave to me just what
I'm seeking

Celebrate we will
Because life is short but sweet for certain
We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue,
Things we cannot change...
Things we cannot change

WOW...beautiful lyrics. Have you seen him in the movie, "Because of Winn Dixie?" He took my breath away in that film, both his acting and singing, though he had a smaller part. If you haven't seen it, please DO!

WOnderful words in this song.Wish I would have thought of them. Maybe I'll pretend I did in a note to Patrick. (Don't tell.)

My Jessica is a big time DM fan. I'm thinking there haven't been any offspring though. You & Suz are a hoot.Sister wives. You know there is a special hairdoo you'd need to wear if you really are!! All rolled up big around the top and long in the back.

I'm with you on that one. Nobody is around at work tomorrow, and I have already loaded up the Dave Matthews CDs to get me through the day.
