Tune in Thursday - Big Head Todd & the Monsters

I’d like to introduce you to one of my favorite bands. I absolutely love live music, especially outdoors, and especially when it is a rock, blues, or country sound. I had the pleasure and honor of hearing Big Head Todd & the Monsters live, and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended.

I thoroughly enjoy when rock and traditional blues are incorporated in a perfect medley. “Please Don’t Tell Her” is one of those perfect medleys. I have all of BHTM’s albums, but I wasn’t able to find a studio video of this song. They play live often so there were a lot of live videos on YouTube. Here they are at a music fest in Tennessee performing one of my absolute favorites:

Align Center

Their music is perfect for long drives, for background party music, for hiking, and for when you’re just putzing about the house. Just a simple great sound. You know my love of lyrics, and I appreciate when a musician is also a poet, one who is able to tell a wonderful tale in handful of sentences.

Please Don’t Tell Her
I always leave her waiting
I always leave her down
if she should come my way
I always turn around
Please don't tell her I love her
I always keep her out
I never let her in
If she should come my way weeping
I greet her with a grin
Please don't tell her I love her
if she should discover the colors of my love
she will fly, fly away
Now you can try tenderness
You can try to hang around
Oh, but I'm sure she'll love you less
I'm sure she'll bring you down
Please don't tell her I love her

Here’s another one of my favorite ones, “It’s Alright.”

It’s Alright
You can turn back the tide of the cold tears from your eyes,
The pangs of wounded pride if you hold me.
Did someone do you wrong yeah,...good lovin's good as gone.
Maybe you ain't as strong as you wanna be.
Chorus: It's alright if you don't wanna go home.
It's alright if you don't wanna be alone.
It's alright if you don't wanna go home.
I understand.
Nothin' stays if it's gotta go now.
You can't get water from a stone now.
Sometimes you've got to think about.
The things you're gonna love.
Chorus: Now that you're doing alright.
You're pretty much outta sight.
I don't see you knockin' 'round my door anymore.
I'm glad to hear you're doing well.
But I know that time will tell.
Only when you're broken down,
is that what friends are for?
Chorus: It's alright if you just wanna go home.
It's alright if you just wanna be alone.
It's alright if you just wanna go home.
I understand.

If you’ve got a spare few minutes, check out www.bigheadtodd.com. Better yet, download & listen to them on your favorite high tech player. That’s assuming you don’t already know who they are or have their stuff.

I’ve got the “Beautiful World” album playing in my office right now… :-) Happy Thursday!

I have heard some of Big Head Todd..and HIS monsters.
They are different, and cool.
I do like the lyrics too..oh, and good live music is the best. It is amazing to me how many of 'today's bands stink live.
And still my love of Dave Matthews band continues cause they are awesome LIVE!!!

I've always loved "Please Don't Tell Her" but I've only heard my friend's version that he covers with his band. I never knew who the original artist was, nor had I heard it. Thanks for sharing!!

Pretty sure my husband has gone to see this band. I remember their great name.

Good toe-tapping post!

Another good band. I have TOTALLY fallen for the sound of David Gray though...listening to him over and over again. And lately I have acquired an old lady crush on a couple Norwegain singers: Alejandro Fuentes and Kurt Nilsen...also like Eskil Holm and Espin Lind. (I have a secret blog dedicated to them!!)
