Chinese love them some 8

This morning, while getting ready for work, I was watching the Today show. Al Roker mentioned that the Olympics will kick off exactly 6 months from today in Beijing, China, on 08-08-08 at 8:08 p.m. (Boy, the Chinese really love the number 8, don’t they?

Well, they’re not alone! 08-08-08 just so happens to be “D-DAY”, as I affectionately call it now. We’ll be in Italy getting married.

Whoa.

There are times I’m still struck by that statement. Amazing. (If any of you knew me from my younger “feminist” days you’ll know why.)

Anyway, I’m excited for our international nuptial journey. It is going to be a blast and I can’t wait to get on that plane! I'm hoping I can pack all of my essentials and my wedding “dress” into my trusty leather Jansport backpack. That backpack has literally been ALL OVER the world with me since I made its acquaintance at the sporting goods store clearance rack well over 15 years ago.

Our plan is a Catholic ceremony in Italy, a Muslim ceremony in southern Spain, and then travel, travel, travel, including stopping at *topless* beaches in Greece. Tee hee. :-) What better way to temper religious fervor than to gawk at topless sunbathers? I can’t think of any. You?

I’m trying to convince Ed to also go to Egypt and/or Turkey, but I don’t think he’s going to bite. Pffft! Party pooper. :-( I’m going to keep trying though. The power of the One Ring must prevail. It must.

Speaking of the Today show, there was a segment on whether woman should settle for Mr. Good Enough if they haven’t found Mr. Right and time is tick-tocking away. My answer? FUCK NO. There are much, much worse things that can happen to a woman who feels lonely just because she is without a mate, no matter what her age. Like, she can be the loneliest person on the planet when she finds herself in an unhappy relationship just because she settled.

All just my opinion, but based on personal experience. I almost did that myself and when I think of my Belov-Ed, I just have to exhale a sigh of relief. This past week I’ve been thinking of how the two of us are so very different in so many ways, and yet I love that Man-Boy to pieces. I just do. I can’t help it.

Hey, speaking of being different….did all of you have a Super Tuesday? Well, good for you. I don’t think our Tuesday could be categorized as “super”, but more like “interesting” and, umm, “fun”, and, umm, “full of vim and vigor”, and umm, yeah, “you get the picture”.

Yes sir, that’s what he gets for falling in love with a liberal. Just wait until we’re married!!!

Bwuuu-ha-ha-ha!

Amen to not Settlin'! I believe I may sing that song tonight when I go out for karaoke.

My ex was conservative (although he was a registered democrat) so I mostly chose not to speak of politics too much. I did make him sit through Fahrenheit 9/11 though. I think he learned a little bit about Bush from it. Our primaries aren't until May here :(

Now that's my kind of wedding! And with everything you are going through for this relationship, there's no way a little politics can derail you now:)

Mr. "Good Enough"?? That's like "almost winning the Super Bowl"-it means you're a loser (even more a loser if you're a Patriot-haha).
I've been with a lot of good enoughs, some "what the hell was I thinking", and definitely some "totally wrong in every single way". And I'm so relieved NOT to have settled for ANY of those pussys.
