It's that time of year again!

Oh dear blog o' mine, how I have neglected you! I’ve been busy, busy, busy, and of course, tired!

There is lots of crap to catch up on, but today is a day to be excited about new things!!!
S flew in from Chicago this afternoon. Yes, she’s back again. Do you know why? Because DA BEARS are comin’ to town BAY-BEEEEE!!!! WOOO-FRICKIN’-HOOOO!!!!

S said that the pilot asked exactly how many people were going to San Diego specifically for the Bears game and the entire plane erupted into cheers. That’s amazing. I love anyone from Chicago. I just love Chicago.

My boss has four Chargers season tickets and he lets us pick the games we want to go to. There was NO QUESTION as to which game I wanted to go to! The seats are so sweet and we’re going to be tailgating with the rest of Bears-land. I’ve already seen about 50, maybe 100, random people on the streets today in their Bears gear. Hell yeah!

Many sports experts believe that this Chargers v. Bears game may be a preview of the
Super Bowl. That would make my heart just stop! See here at item no. 1:

(Except that I have to believe that the Bears will come out victorious.:-))

I’d like to take a moment now to blog about one of life’s greatest pleasures for me. That would be my RABID & INSANE PASSION for sports. Be it football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, tennis, golf, curling, YOU NAME IT, I will at the very least like it, if not love it. And it is not simply on the professional level. Oh no, I also have a love affair with college sports.

I love the pure competition, the strategies analyzed, the plays dissected, and everything else there is about sports. God didn’t create me to be very coordinated, so I’ve never been a great sports athlete per se. That hasn’t stopped me from playing sports when I have a chance though. But, more than playing sports, I LOVE watching sports, whether live or on TV. We get all the different sports packages on Direct TV so we can keep up with all the games. In fact, my very first Valentine’s Day with Ed I gifted him with DirectTV’s MLB Extra Innings so he can watch his Yankees while living in SoCal. That has been his V-Day gift ever since. It’s also kind of a gift to myself since I can catch all the Cubs games if they’re not shown on WGN.

How much do I love sports? Well, here’s an example. While in law school, I dated a doctor who was doing his residency. He had a weekend day off every other weekend. Well, it was football season and Da Bears were doing exceptionally well, in fact, many announcers were calling it their “Cinderella Season”. So, Doctor Man had a Sunday off and wanted to go out to eat. There was only half of the game left, so I asked if he wouldn’t mind coming over first until the end of the game and then we’d leave. Very irritated, he stated that he would mind very much indeed. Well, that irritated ME, mainly because I thought he said he was a “sports guy”, and secondly because I always adapted to his crazy ass schedule (even though we went on a total of maybe 3 dates!). I told him I wouldn’t go anywhere until the end of the game and he hung up on me. Nice, huh? Obviously, it didn’t work out between us. He dumped me by never calling me again. Oh, boo-hoo, I was so upset. :-) NOT!

This year I’m trying to restrain myself from joining a Fantasy Football league. I’m told that is one step removed from joining Kingdom-Geekdom, but how bad can it be if it’s a kingdom dedicated to football? Hmmm, I’m still pondering.

In the meantime, I’ve been busily excited preparing for football season. Navy played its first game last Friday night vs. Temple. They won. Ed was happy. Syracuse played Washington. The ‘Cuse was crushed. I was not happy. All weekend long there was college football (finally!) and then TONIGHT, da-da-da-duh!, will be the first NFL game of the season. I'm torn between Drew Brees and Peyton. Yours truly will be attending the Da Bears game on Sunday when they play the Chargers in the San Diego home opener. Remind me someday to post a picture of my Chicago Bears beer jersey. It ROCKS!!!

I’m also trying to restrain myself from getting too excited about my Cubbies. Even though they are the division leaders right now, they are still barely over .500 as a team. That doesn’t bode well for the long haul in September! The teams that have won the World Series in the last decade all began to get “hot” right about this time and they stayed hot all the way through. And even if that team had a so-so regular season they win the WS simply because they got “hot” at the right time. I’m going to wait one more weekend before I begin to sizzle with anticipation for my Cubbies! (Ok, maybe a couple more days!!!)

As for the Baby Bulls, this year I’d like to catch one of their games when they come out SoCal’s way. They play both the Lakers and the Clippers at Staples this year and I’m dying to see them play out here, especially it means I get to see them beat the Rapist’s team. Oops! I meant “Kobe’s” team. I’m still kind of sour at Kirk Heinrich’s comments after his loss to ‘Melo and my Orangemen back in ’03, but I need to let it go since he is a Bull now. Plus, he plays some hard core B-ball for white guy! Go Kirk! Go Kirk! Go Kirk!

Aaaah, I can go on and on. Sports give me such a thrill. And I love that Ed loves sports as much as I do. Sometimes I wish he had the same team loyalties because our sports “debates” can get “testy” at times, but I guess I can’t have it all. We’re already planning our next “sports vacation”. We’re thinking of catching the Navy vs. Wake Forest football game in Annapolis on 10/20 (homecoming weekend) and then flying up to Rhode Island to take in the New England autumn festivities. I’m so excited to see the incredible fall foliage. We’re working on the logistics now. We both definitely want to be able to visit some historical sites and maybe get a tour of the USS Constitution.

Oh, and I love that I also get to share sports with S who is also as passionate about sports as I am. I can’t wait for the game this Sunday! Tailgate time, baby!

Oooooooh, I love autumn!!!!!!
